Time is Always Ticking

Let me just preface this by extending my sincerest, deepest, apologies for our absence from this blog. Over this summer, I’ve learned something. And now that’s it come to a close, I see it only fitting to write a nice, long post about my life at the end of the glorious months I like to call summer.

“Time flies by when you’re having fun”

Well, super cliché, right?

I have sat through an Economics and Calculus class during the course of the summer. They began shortly after my family vacation to Hawaii and did not end until August 9th. That’s eight weeks, people. Now, don’t get me wrong. I believe in working hard to accomplish whatever you choose and hope to do. And nowadays, summer classes are pretty much the only way a college kid can survive to graduate on time. **Excuse me while I complain...ready, go.** With my boyfriend starting a new and demanding job, my best friend taking frequent trips to SoCal to move into her new apartment, my sister permanently starting work for the rest of her life, and my generous and time-consuming workload, my summer has not exactly lived up to the expectations I set for the sunny season. I went to Hawaii and Tahoe. Amazing vacations. I’ve been on day trips to the beaches. I’ve gone to all the local, free events that my town and surrounding towns hold. But have you ever taken a step back and wondered what you would do if you had all the free time in the world? I mean, ALL the free time. No summer classes. No work. Nowhere to be. No emails to send. No professors to contact. Yes, yes, and yes. I take for granted my summer last year. While it got hectic towards the end as I prepared for school, I was free as a bird.

So what has this all concluded to? The reason why I haven’t been updating our blog, and I’m assuming the same reason for Jenn as well,(she had those dang summer classes too), is because time is too short. When you get a lick of free time, do you want to be typing on a keyboard or out in the fresh air? There is never an excuse to be made that did not involve time. Ever.
“I ran out of time”
“I’ve been so busy, I didn’t have time”
“Can we schedule for another time?”

Ladies and gentleman, time is both a curse and a blessing.

On a lighter note, let me tell you what I have been doing with my time.

There are few things that bring joy to my heart as much as the summer, parties(the good, old-fashioned way, and my friends and family. My best friend, Megan and I held a murder mystery 1920s birthday party. Yes. We. Did. A photobooth, “Pin the Olive on the Martini”, excellent acting, blow-up dolls under sheets, Chicago and Gastby rivalries, and more red velvet cake than anyone could imagine to eat. Though planning the backstory to this intricate party was extremely stressful and demanding, it was the best party I have ever had. IF YOU HAVE NEVER READ/SEEN GATSBY OR CHICAGO, DO IT NOW. You won’t regret it.

Here are some pictures from the amazing night, when Meg and I got to be Roxie Hart and Daisy Buchanan, and do the 1920s a whole new way.

Just having a little fun with our photobooth!

 Gotta have some games!

1920s outfits, sparkling cider, red velvet cake drizzled with chocolate "Revenge is sweet" and lots of wishes!

One of the great pics our friend, Chelsea, took!

What's a party without a photobooth, right?

The Gatsby Room!

We put Gatsby posters up, along with our "Pin the Olive on the Martini" game!

We had little signs like "Gatsby's library" or 1920s lingo everywhere, including for the food!
